Referring to my Despatch No. 207
of the 8th. August last, I have the honour to state that
objection has been made by the China Mutual Life Insurance
Company, Limited, a company registered locally but operat-
-ing mainly in Shanghai and the neighbourhood, to various
clauses in the Life Insurance Companies Ordinance, 1907.

Certain of the criticisms made
by the Company and their advisers would appear to be well
founded, but the matters with which they deal are of so
technical a nature that this Government without the assist-
-ance of expert advice, which is obtainable locally only
from competing Insurance Companies, is unable to deal with
them.
3.
I have therefore to request that
the matter may be submitted to the legal advisers of the
Colonial Office or to such other authority as Your Lordship
